About Bertin D Salguero Porres, MD
Dr. Bertín D. Salguero, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, working with the Interventional Pulmonology Section at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Here he collaborates closely with thoracic surgery, oncology, radiology, and other subspecialties to advance both clinical care and research. After earning his medical degree from Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala, he completed an Internal Medicine residency and served as Chief Resident at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Morningside and West Hospitals, where he stayed to complete fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, followed by an advanced fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
His clinical work focuses on state‑of‑the‑art, minimally invasive bronchoscopic and thoracoscopic procedures for diagnosis and therapy of lung nodules, masses, and cancer, as well as management of benign and malignant airway obstruction. He is actively involved in collaborative initiatives such as Columbia's lung‑volume‑reduction program for emphysema and the lung-transplant program. Dr. Salguero has authored multiple peer-reviewed articles, he is actively involved in clinical trials, and has received multiple awards, including being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
