About Thomas Michael Kennedy, MD
Dr. Thomas Kennedy is a board-certified Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician at Columbia University Medical Center and a faculty member in the Emergency Medicine Department's Ultrasound Division. He provides clinical care for acutely ill and injured patients at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. With a particular interest in the care of Pediatric trauma patients, he runs the biannual, multidisciplinary Pediatric Trauma Skills Workshop at the Mary and Michael Jaharis Simulation Center for the department's faculty and fellows.
As an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (in Emergency Medicine) at the Columbia University Medical Center, Dr. Kennedy's academic interests include medical education and point-of-care ultrasound. He is the Course Director for the medical college's Pediatric Emergency Medicine Ultrasound elective and is actively involved in resident and fellow education. Additionally, he has published several manuscripts on the use of ultrasound for the care of acutely ill children and has authored textbook chapters on a variety of Pediatric Emergency Medicine topics.
Dr. Kennedy completed his undergraduate education at Villanova University and then attended Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. After earning his medical degree, he completed a Pediatric residency at the University of Connecticut followed by a Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship at Nemours Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children. During fellowship, he received the Fellow Teaching Award, given annually by the Pediatric residents to the top educator among the hospital's numerous fellowship programs. Dr. Kennedy then completed his training with the Pediatric Point-of-Care Ultrasound Fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center before joining the Emergency Medicine faculty.
