About Rhyan Toledo, PhD


Rhyan Toledo, PhD (she/they) is a Postdoctoral Clinical Fellow at the Gender and Sexuality Program (GSP) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Toledo provides individual and group therapy, as well as psychological assessment, for trans, gender-expansive, and LGBTQ+ people across the lifespan. Their approach is collaborative and grounded in a gender-affirmative model of care.Dr. Toledo's therapeutic style is relational, warm, and trauma-informed. Trained in psychodynamic, dialectical-behavioral (DBT), and cognitive-behavioral (CBT) approaches, she integrates these methods to meet each person's unique needs. Her work is guided by compassion and a liberation-oriented perspective that honors each person's lived experience. Dr. Toledo aims to help clients deepen self-understanding, strengthen connection, and build lives that feel authentic and meaningful while navigating interpersonal and systemic challenges.Dr. Toledo earned their PhD in Clinical Psychology from The City College of New York (CUNY). They have provided therapy and assessment across a range of outpatient, inpatient, and medical settings, working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Their assessment work focuses on helping individuals and families understand learning, attention, and developmental differences through a strengths-based and affirming lens.Across clinical, teaching, and research experiences, Dr. Toledo has been dedicated to advancing affirming and accessible health care, particularly for queer and trans youth. In addition to her work at Columbia, she is a part-time Adjunct Instructor at The City College of New York, and views teaching and mentorship as important extensions of her clinical values. Dr. Toledo's research interests include the intersections of identity, mental health, and spirituality, and how culture, meaning-making, and belonging contribute to well-being across the lifespan.
