About Peter Chiu, MD
Peter Chiu, MD, MS, is a congenital heart surgeon in the Division of Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
Dr. Chiu completed his residency in cardiothoracic surgery and a post-doctoral research fellowship at Stanford University. He subsequently completed specialized fellowship training in pediatric cardiac surgery at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School. After completing his training, he remained on staff at Boston Children's Hospital and served as Surgical Director of the Pulmonary Artery Reconstruction Program. Dr. Chiu earned his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University and a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Clinical Research from Stanford University.
With a clinical focus on complex neonatal surgery, pediatric aortic reconstruction, airway surgery, and complex pulmonary artery reconstruction for tetralogy of Fallot/pulmonary atresia/MAPCAs, Dr. Chiu treats the entire spectrum of congenital heart disease. He is dedicated to delivering thoughtful, patient-tailored surgical care and guiding families through complex surgical journeys with transparency and empathy.
Dr. Chiu's academic work bridges clinical outcomes, epidemiologic methodologies, and advanced statistical modeling in congenital heart surgery. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals including The New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
