About Nir Y. Uriel, MD
Nir Uriel, MD, MSc, FACC is the Seymour, Paul, and Gloria Milstein Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Director of Heart Failure, Heart Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support at New York-Presbyterian. He is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Heart Failure Research Institute (HFRI) at Columbia University.
Dr. Uriel is an internationally recognized leader in advanced heart failure, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support. His research focuses on novel therapies, hemodynamics and remote monitoring, biomarkers, artificial intelligence and digital health, and the development of next-generation approaches to LVAD and transplant care.
He has authored more than 550 peer-reviewed publications and has led numerous landmark multicenter clinical trials and registries, including MOMENTUM 3, ARIES-HM3, SHORE, and FIRE1.
In parallel, Dr. Uriel has led an extensive portfolio of investigator-initiated research that has influenced clinical practice in advanced heart failure. His group developed and validated the LVAD ramp test and subsequently established an important body of evidence around LVAD hemodynamic assessment and optimization, including the RAMP-IT-UP program. In heart transplantation, his research has helped build the evidence supporting molecular diagnostics and MMDx, together with donor-derived cell-free DNA and other biomarkers, to better characterize rejection and advance precision surveillance after transplantation.
Through HFRI, Dr. Uriel leads a multidisciplinary research platform focused on translating innovative science, technology, and data into better care for patients with heart failure.
