About Nicholas C. Avitabile, DO
Dr. Nicholas Avitabile is an emergency medicine physician who has been practicing emergency medicine for 12 years. He began his emergency medicine/family practice dual residency at St. Barnabas Health Systems in the Bronx, New York in 2008. After serving as chief resident of both emergency medicine and family practice, he finished residency in 2013. While in residency he went to Port-au-Prince, Haiti to work in the Bernard Mevs Emergency Department following the earthquake in 2010.
He then went on to complete an emergency ultrasound fellowship at Mount Sinai West from 2013-2014. During that time, he traveled to Kigali, Rwanda with PURE (Point of Care Ultrasound in Resource Limited Environments). Dr. Avitabile then returned to St. Barnabas Health Systems where he served as the Emergency Ultrasound Director from 2014-2018. In August, 2018 he joined the team at Columbia University Medical Center as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at CUMC with the title of GME Ultrasound Director.
