About Melanie A. Gold, DO


Melanie A. Gold, DO, DABMA, MQT, FAAP, FACOP, is a Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center and a Professor in the Department of Population & Family Health at the Mailman School of Public Health. She is also the Medical Director of New York-Presbyterian Hospital's seven School-Based Health Centers and is working to expand pediatric integrative health care at these locations with the addition of services such as osteopathic manipulation, medical acupuncture and acupressure, mindfulness-based stress reduction, aromatherapy, and hypnotherapy.


Dr. Gold is a pediatrician certified as a sub-specialist in adolescent medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics and has served as Diplomat of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture since 2014. She is a board member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture and serves on its membership committee. She is also an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Section on Integrative Medicine for the American Academy of Pediatrics.


Her research has included funding for an R01 from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to conduct a randomized efficacy trial to study the effectiveness of MI for reducing sexual risk-taking behaviors that lead to unintended pregnancy and STDs. She has also received funding for research on adolescent health from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and local foundations as well as from the pharmaceutical industry to study adolescent contraception.
