Matthew C Sullivan, PHD

Dr. Matthew Sullivan is a staff psychologist and Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology practicing at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Health Psychology from the University of Connecticut. He completed his predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Sullivan is active in the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), where he recently co-chaired the Behavioral Medicine and Integrated Primary Care Special Interest Group. His professional interests focus on combining evidence-based therapy principles with the use of mobile technology to effect positive health behavior change, such as reducing substance use or maintaining medication regimens that prevent and treat HIV. He has interests in helping patients to reduce and quit use of alcohol and other drugs, treat insomnia, manage stress and anxiety, and promote health and wellness. Dr. Sullivan has served as Project Director for two NIDA-funded behavioral intervention trials and served as Principal Investigator (PI) on research funded by the Harvard University Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). He has contributed to advancing health behavior change research with over 30 peer-reviewed publications. He is licensed to practice psychology in NY, NJ, CT, MA, and NH.
