About Maria Carmela Evangelista, NP
M. Carmela Evangelista is an Adult Nurse Practitioner specialized in diagnosing and treating orthopedic conditions primarily focused on lower extremities. Her journey into becoming a healthcare provider, while circuitous, contributes to the personal perspective she imparts and the ambience in each of her patient encounters.
She is also an Assistant Professor of Nursing in the Columbia University School of Nursing at the Columbia University Medical Center. Drawing from various mentors through the years, she endeavors to impart the wisdom lent to her as she helps train the next generation of nurses.
Before joining Columbia Orthopedics, Carmela worked as an orthopedic trauma nurse in Boston, caring for a disadvantaged clientele in a Level 1 Trauma Center. She also worked in an ambulatory care short stay nurse at the Weill Cornell Campus of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and as an adult nurse practitioner at Fordham University's Student Health Service.
