About Kiyon Tavakolian, MD
Dr. Kiyon Naser-Tavakolian is board certified in diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology. He is an assistant professor of radiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and an attending radiologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Tavakolian has expertise in minimally invasive procedures and treats a wide range of medical conditions including cancer, venous disease, and men's and women's health issues.
A key focus of Dr. Tavakolian's practice is the treatment of cancer and non-cancer related pain. He provides minimally invasive, image-guided treatments for uterine fibroids and pelvic pain in women, and enlarged prostate and varicoceles in men. He also has expertise in the minimally invasive treatment of symptomatic hemorrhoids and knee arthritis. His interests also include treatment for liver cancers, deep venous disease, joint injections, nerve blocks, kyphoplasty, ablations, and women's health procedures such as hysterosalpingograms and fallopian tube recanalizations.
Dr. Tavakolian completed his medical school education at the University of Vermont College of Medicine where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Subsequently he completed his internal medicine internship and diagnostic radiology residency at Stony Brook University Hospital, where he served as academic chief resident. He then completed his interventional radiology fellowship at Columbia University-NewYork-Presbyterian.
Dr. Tavakolian is a passionate educator of residents, fellows, and medical students and has been awarded numerous teaching awards during his residency. Additionally, he has authored multiple manuscripts and abstracts in prostate artery embolization, liver cancer treatments, biopsies, neurodegenerative disorders, and case reports within interventional radiology. He is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, and the American Journal of Roentgenology and a member of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), American College of Radiology (ACR), Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe, and the American Medical Association.
