About Ella D'amico, MD
Dr. Ella D'Amico is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. She is dual board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Sports Medicine and has clinical expertise in non-surgical sports and musculoskeletal care for individuals across all activity levels.
Dr. D'Amico earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Syracuse University and a medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She began her residency training as an intern at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and finished her residency in PM&R at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, serving as Academic Chief Resident. She then completed a Sports Medicine fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where she trained across the Columbia and Weill Cornell campuses and was a team doctor for Columbia University Athletics, Fordham University Athletics, and Women's Elite Rugby. During fellowship, the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons – Columbia University honored her with the Academy of Clinical Excellence "Rising Star" Award, which recognizes trainees who exemplify humanism, emotional intelligence, professionalism, and passion.Her clinical interests include injury prevention, performance optimization, and the treatment of sports and musculoskeletal injuries. She uses advanced diagnostics such as ultrasound, as well as, minimally invasive procedures like ultrasound-guided injections, corticosteroid injections, viscosupplementation, tendon procedures (e.g. tenotomy), peripheral nerve injections. Her expertise also includes regenerative medicine techniques such as prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT).She has provided medical coverage for a wide range of athletic teams at all competitive levels, including high school, NCAA Division I, professional, and Olympic athletes. Her coverage experience also spans to mass events such as the New York City Marathon. She currently serves as a team physician for Eastchester High School and Fordham University Athletics.She is also actively involved in research focused on musculoskeletal health and regenerative therapies, with multiple publications in leading medical journals. As an educator, Dr. D'Amico contributes to training medical students and residents at Columbia University and Weill Cornell Medical College.Dr. D'Amico takes a holistic approach to patient care, focusing not only on the condition itself, but also on how it affects a patient's daily activities, identity, and quality of life. She is committed to thoughtful, collaborative, and compassionate care to ensure her patients feel supported and understood. With her personal experience in competitive sports, she is passionate about helping people stay active, recover from injuries, and get them back to doing what they love.
