In addition to her role within Ob/Gyn, she also engages in research related to developmental neuroscience, trauma-informed obstetric care and perinatal mood disorders within Dr. Catherine Monk's Perinatal Pathways Lab. Her professional passions are centered upon providing equitable reproductive mental and maternal health to individuals and communities facing disproportionate care. Having worked in various clinical and research roles within Latin America and East Africa, Ms. Butler is interested in exploring and observing how transgenerational trauma, oppression, and health disparities coalesce to inform developmental trajectories and behavior among marginalized populations within a global context. As a doula, Ms. Butler works collaboratively with doula communities of color throughout the city to advocate for birth autonomy and to expand access to birth support and perinatal resources among underserved communities. Ms. Butler has experience supporting a range of agencies serving the mental and medical health needs of LGBTQ, perinatal, and homeless populations, in various capacities. She is currently completing a doctorate in psychiatric nursing at Columbia with a sub-specialty in women's health.
