About Neil A Feldstein, MD
Dr. Neil A. Feldstein has served as Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurological Surgery since joining Columbia in 1994 and is the Residency Program Director for the Department of Neurological Surgery. For more than three decades, he has cared for infants, children, and adolescents with some of the most complex neurological conditions, earning the trust of families throughout the New York metropolitan area and beyond.
Dr. Feldstein specializes in the treatment of Chiari malformations, spina bifida and other forms of spinal dysraphism, tethered spinal cord, brain and spinal cord tumors, craniofacial conditions, hydrocephalus, syringomyelia, and cerebrovascular disorders, including Moyamoya disease, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), cavernous malformations, and pediatric aneurysms. He also cares for children with epilepsy and other complex neurological conditions requiring neurosurgical evaluation.
Committed to providing the safest and most effective care possible, Dr. Feldstein incorporates advanced minimally invasive and endoscopic techniques whenever appropriate. These approaches allow many procedures—including selected surgeries for craniosynostosis, Chiari malformations, and hydrocephalus—to be performed through smaller incisions, helping reduce pain, shorten hospital stays, and support faster recovery.
Dr. Feldstein believes that caring for children means caring for the entire family. He works closely with specialists across NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital—including pediatric neurologists, neuro-oncologists, craniofacial surgeons, rehabilitation specialists, and maternal-fetal medicine experts—to develop individualized treatment plans for every child. His practice also includes the care of children with spina bifida before and after birth as part of Columbia's multidisciplinary fetal surgery program.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Feldstein is dedicated to educating the next generation of neurosurgeons. As Residency Program Director, he helps train future leaders in the field while advancing the highest standards of pediatric neurosurgical care.
